Software

What software is installed on my computer?

Hardware

Desktop - Each staff member is allotted one primary workstation. The standard desktop is an HP. Non-standard equipment such as laptops, iMacs, etc. should be requested by a supervisor. Special requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Monitors - The standard is a single 23" monitor or 2 dual 20" monitors. Please submit a ticket via the Jira Service Desk Portal if you need non-standard monitors.

Mouse/Keyboard - Wired mice and keyboards are provided as the standard. Please submit a ticket via the Jira Service Desk Portal if you need non-standard equipment such as wireless or ergonomic items.

Other - Submit a ticket via the Jira Service Desk Portal if you need a headset, a camera, etc. We usually have a supply of standard peripherals in stock.

Voyager does not run on Mac OS, but see the section below on Virtual Software (aka CTX).

Slack

New employees are emailed a Slack invitation during on-boarding.

Storing Your Files

It is important to properly save and store your work files. We encourage cloud storage due to ease of access and share-ablility. Hardware failure, although uncommon does occur. Online file sharing and storage on ucla.box.com is a great solution. You also have the option of storing your files on the library network shares.

Departmental Drives (aka Network Shares)

Network shares are directories on a server. To access them, you need to know their location and have permissions to view and write to them. If you need access to a particular departmental share, submit a ticket to the service desk.

Printers are pre-configured and available in Self-Service. 

If desired printer cannot be found, please send in a Library Service Portal request. Printers can be tricky. Please contact the Service Desk if you need help.

Need an Application? Check Self-service!

UCLA Library utilizes JAMFPro to manage Macs. Each managed Mac device has the Self-Service application installed automatically. This allows the user to install software, security updates and much more.

Apple's, Pages, Numbers and Keynote and their Microsoft counterparts Word, Excel and Powerpoint are both available for download in Self-Service.
